Birmingham City are likely to be set for an interesting summer transfer window ahead, as they look to prepare for the 2021/22 league campaign.

The Blues finished this year's campaign 18th in the Championship table, and the club's supporters will be keen to see their side go from strength to strength, after some positive performances towards the end of the season.

Reinforcements are likely this summer, as they look to get off to a positive start to the new Championship season, where a top-half finish certainly shouldn't be ruled out.

There are plenty of players in the Premier League that have found regular minutes hard to come by in recent seasons, and could be set for departures on loan in the next few months.

We take a look at TEN Premier League outcasts that Birmingham City should try and sign on loan this summer.

Find out which player is first up on the list, on the next page....

Harry Wilson is the first player up, with the midfielder's future likely to be away from Liverpool heading into the new season.

The Welsh midfielder spent the 2020/21 season on loan with Cardiff City, and caught the eye with a number of impressive performances for the Bluebirds.

He scored seven goals and was on hand to provide 12 assists in all competitions for Mick McCarthy's side, as they narrowly missed out on a top-six finish in the Championship.

Wilson also impressed in his loan spell with Derby County in the 2019/20 season, and could be an excellent addition to the Birmingham City side this term, as they could potentially be in the market for adding a midfielder to their side, with Alen Halilović looking as though he's set to leave the Blues this summer after failing to agree a new contract.

Billy Gilmour is likely to be a player attracting significant interest this summer, with the Chelsea youngster already featuring for the Blues' first-team.

But regular minutes are likely to be tough to find for the youngster heading into the new season, and Thomas Tuchel could be tempted to find him a loan spell to further his development in senior football.

Birmingham need players that are eager to prove themselves at senior level, and Gilmour's ability on the ball could certainly be useful to Lee Bowyer's side.

However, he'll be a player in demand, and Birmingham would know that they faced a real battle to land his signature if they were interested in signing Gilmour.

Dwight Gayle is the third player on the list, with the Newcastle United man finding regular game time with Steve Bruce's side hard to come by in recent seasons.

The forward has shown an eye for goal in the Championship earlier in his career, as he netted 24 goals in 41 appearances in a loan spell with West Brom.

But he's often been behind the likes of Callum Wilson and Joelinton in the Newcastle United team this season, which could mean that he'll be looking for regular game time elsewhere this summer.

Competition for places in attacking areas of any team is ideal for a manager, and you'd have to fancy Gayle to earn his place in the Birmingham City starting XI relatively quickly if he arrived.

Jack Clarke is the next promising young talent on the list, with the winger showing glimpses of his exciting potential whilst out on loan.

The winger had previously caught the eye with some strong performances in the Championship whilst with Leeds United, which saw him earn a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

He then was a bit-part player for QPR in his loan spell with the R's, but had his loan spell with Stoke City last season cut short due to injury.

At the age of 20, he has a point to prove in senior football, and that could play into Birmingham City's hands, as they look to add depth to their options in wide areas, which Clarke could certainly do.

The Leeds United winger could be worth a punt for Birmingham City this summer, as he's another player that hasn't featured much in the Premier League.

Poveda played a small role in Leeds' promotion-winning campaign in the 2019/20 season, but only made 14 league appearances for Marcelo Bielsa's side this term.

None of those appearances were starts for the Yorkshire-based side, and he'll be eager to make a name for himself at the earliest of opportunities.

He's still only 21, and he could prove to be the ideal replacement for the departing Alen Halilović, who looks set to leave the club after turning down a new deal with Lee Bowyer's side.

You could be forgiven for forgetting that Success was still a Watford player, as he's rarely featured for the Hornets over the last five years.

The forward has recently admitted that he's keen to fight for his place in the Watford team next season, despite them being promoted back into the Premier League.

He's well down the pecking order in Xisco Munoz's plans for the first-team though, and Birmingham could be the ideal destination for him in the coming months.

Success has got a point to prove in English football, and if he can get up to match speed, then the Blues could have a great signing on their hands.

Jake Vokins is the next player on the list, with the Saints full-back likely to be frozen out of the first-team picture heading into the new season.

The defender spent the second half of the 2020/21 season on loan with Sunderland, but struggled to make a positive impact with Lee Johnson's side, as they missed out on promotion into the Championship, after a defeat to Lincoln City in their play-off semi-final.

Vokins is still only 21, and competition for places in any team is a positive dilemma to have for any manager, so this could turn out to be a smart addition to Lee Bowyer's team, as they look to challenge higher up the Championship table next season.

Matt Clarke might be fancying his chances of challenging for a spot in the Brighton and Hove Albion first-team next season, after catching the eye with some impressive showings for Derby County this term.

But the defender is likely to be well down the pecking order in Graham Potter's plans though, as the Brighton boss has better options available to him at this moment in time.

Ben White, Adam Webster and Lewis Dunk are just some of the names ahead of Clarke in the pecking order at the AMEX Stadium this summer, and it wouldn't come as too much of a surprise to see him loaned out once again.

Birmingham have used George Friend as a makeshift centre-back in the 2020/21 season on a rotational basis, so a recognised central defender could be a welcome addition to Lee Bowyer's squad this summer.

Keinan Davis is another forward that could soon be heading for the exit door, although it remains to be seen as to whether that'll be on a temporary or permanent basis.

Davis made 15 league appearances in total for Aston Villa in the 2020/21 season, although just one of those was a start for Dean Smith's side.

He's often been behind Ollie Watkins in the Villa starting XI, which is understandable given the former Brentford striker's impressive start to life at Villa Park.

AFC Bournemouth and Swansea City are just some of the clubs that were reportedly interested in signing Davis in the past, and he'd provide more than good enough competition for the likes of Sam Cosgrove and Lukas Jutkiewicz for their starting spots in the Birmingham City team.

Jarrad Branthwaite is the last player on the list, with the Everton youngster likely to be finding first-team minutes with the Toffees tough to find anytime soon.

The former Carlisle United youngster spent the 2020/21 season on loan with Championship side Blackburn Rovers, and adjusted well to life at Ewood Park.

The central defender is still somewhat of a raw talent, and competition for the likes of Harlee Dean and Marc Roberts in the Birmingham City defence could be ideal for Lee Bowyer heading into the new season.

Even if he wasn't to be a regular starter for the Blues, he could be a good enough option to use on a rotational basis in and around the hectic fixture list in the Championship.
