Lincoln City are gearing up for another season in League One after narrowly missing out on promotion via the play-offs last season.

It was a remarkable campaign for Michael Appleton's side, with the former Oxford man guiding the Imps to a top-six finish.

The Imps surpassed expectations and battled their way into the final, only to lose to Blackpool by two goals to one at Wembley.

With the likes of Morgan Rogers and Brennan Johnson returning to their parent clubs, and Jorge Grant also leaving for Peterborough United, it's a big summer for Appleton and for the club.

But the core of their squad remains, and they will be fearing nobody as they look to launch another assault on the League One play-off spots next season.

Looking at those who Lincoln have feared over the years, though, we take a look 10 players who enjoyed plenty of success against the Imps...

Oxford were another team to compete in the League One play-offs last season, with Matty Taylor spearheading their bid for promotion.

In March, Taylor completed a turnaround which saw the U's come from a goal down to beat Lincoln at the Kassam Stadium.

Taylor, who used to be a prolific goalscorer for Bristol Rovers in the National League against the Imps, has featured 11 times against the club, scoring five goals and registering three assists.

Le Fondre is currently playing down under in Australia for Sydney FC, having previously been on the books at the likes of Rotherham United, Wolves and Bolton Wanderers in England.

Le Fondre made a name for himself in England at Rotherham, and used to be a prolific goalscorer for the Millers in League Two.

In 2009/10, Le Fondre scored three goals against the Imps and chipped in with an assist, and in total, he has scored five goals in 11 games against the club.

Those goals came between 2008/09 and 2010/11, with both clubs fighting at either end of the table in League Two.

Tyson is a player who is widely known around the East Midlands, and is a familiar face to Lincoln fans.

Over a decade ago he plied his trade for Nottingham Forest and Derby County, and in the summer of 2019, he arrived at Notts County on a free transfer.

After falling out of favour under Neal Ardley, Tyson joined Chesterfield in the latter stages of 2019/20, and is still on the books in Derbyshire.

The veteran forward has played against Lincoln 6 times in his career, scoring 5 goals.

We've spoke about how prolific Le Fondre used to be in League Two, and in 2009/10, Pitman was also an integral player for AFC Bournemouth.

Pitman scored an incredible 26 goals in 46 games for Bournemouth in the 2009/10 League Two campaign, helping them fight and win promotion to League One.

Pitman later had spells with the likes of Ipswich, Portsmouth and Swindon Town, and has faced Lincoln 6 times in his career.

The Jersey-born striker has scored 5 goals against the Imps, adding one assist too.

Lincoln and Forest Green Rovers both won promotion from the National League in 2016/17, with City going up automatically as champions and Forest Green winning in the play-offs.

Marsh-Brown, who scored 10 goals that season, scored a wondergoal for the club in their Wembley win over Tranmere Rovers.

The tricky winger faced Lincoln quite a few times in the National League, having been at the likes of Barnet beforehand.

Marsh-Brown made 7 appearances against Lincoln, scoring 5 goals.

Most of Bishop's game time in his career came at Bury, making over 230 appearances for the Shakers during a seven-year stay at Gigg Lane.

Bishop was prolific for both Bury and York City, and he featured a whopping 14 times against the Imps in total.

Bishop scored 5 goals and added 2 assists against the Imps, and faced them in the National League for the likes of Halifax and Wrexham.

He's now playing for Stalybridge Celtic in the National League North at the age of 38.

Disley is a player who Lincoln fans would have booed a fair amount over the years.

The Worksop-born midfielder played for the likes of Alfreton and Mansfield Town, and he captained Grimsby into the Football League in 2016.

Disley is a bit of a pantomime villain, then, and he has also been in good form whenever he's faced the Imps.

The midfielder played against Lincoln a whopping 20 times, scoring 6 goals and chipping in with one assist.

We've spoke about lethal strikers who caused Lincoln problems in the National League, and Norwood was prolific for Tranmere.

Norwood scored 90 goals in 180 games for Tranmere before moving to Ipswich in the summer of 2019, and he's since netted 21 goals in 61 appearances.

Norwood has faced Lincoln 17 times in his career, scoring 6 goals against the Imps with most of those goals coming in the fifth tier.

Norwood also scored against the Imps last season in a draw at Portman Road.

Guinan came through the ranks at Nottingham Forest, however most of his game time in his career came at Hereford United and Cheltenham Town.

Guinan faced Lincoln on 11 occasions, losing only once and winning 7 times.

Guinan scored 7 goals in 11 games against the Imps, and his final goal against the club came in a 1-0 home win over them in 2009.

He hung up his boots in 2013, after a spell with Kidderminster Harriers.

Lester has played for several clubs around the East Midlands region, including the likes of Nottingham Forest and Chesterfield. He also played for Sheffield United and Grimsby Town.

Lester scored 90 goals in over 200 appearances for Chesterfield, helping the Spireites win promotion from League Two under John Sheridan.

He's played against Lincoln on 8 occasions, scoring 7 goals and registering 1 assist.

He is now in charge of Sheffield United's academy, and against the Imps, he won five games, drawing once and losing twice.
