Charlton Athletic will be looking ahead to their upcoming Sky Bet League One campaign with a glint in their eye after conducting some eye catching transfer business so far.

Nigel Adkins and co have already brought in the likes of Jayden Stockley and Craig MacGillivray from Preston North End and Portsmouth respectively, whilst the Addicks have also supplemented their midfield options with the addition of George Dobson from Sunderland.

Promotion will certainly be the aim for the South London club after missing out on a play-off spot last term and Adkins will be hoping that a packed out Valley can roar his side onto bigger and better things under the ownership of Thomas Sandgaard.

Charlton of course have plenty of past pedigree from playing higher up the pyramid and their aim will be to repeat the feat of rising up the leagues.

Here, we take a look at TEN players Charlton seemed to hate playing against from over the years.

The former Arsenal and Barcelona striker was a regular thorn in Charlton's side over the years and went on to notch up an impressive 12 goals in 13 games against the Addicks over the years.

Arguably one of the greatest strikers of all time, Henry went on to win almost everything that there is to win at both club and international level and is now a pundit and manager.

Currently assistant manager for the Belgian national team, Henry is still learning as a coach and seemingly has hopes of making his way back into one of the top roles after taking in stints with the likes of AS Monaco and Montreal Impact in recent years.

A name who will be familiar to many fans of the Football League, Rhodes has played plenty of games against the Addicks over the years and is one of their chief tormentors as a result of that.

The former Scotland international has scored 11 times in 14 outings against the South London side and is still banging in the goals in the Championship as we move towards next season.

Now back at Huddersfield Town where he enjoyed the best years of his career, Rhodes will be looking to find his shooting boots once more for the Terriers as he heads up their front line once more.

A Liverpool legend by all accounts, Fowler enjoyed a prolific goal scoring record against Charlton over the years and went on to net 10 goals in 18 games against the Addicks before he hung up his boots.

Now involved in coaching, Fowler is said to be keen on a move into English football and was most recently linked with a move to Swindon Town prior to the Robins appointing John McGreal.

Easily one of the best strikers of his generation, Fowler earnt a reputation for being a predator within the confines of the penalty box and will be looking to pass on his knowledge and experience to whatever team he manages next.

Defoe is a man who needs little introduction to those of us that follow English football regularly, with the former England striker having scored goal on a regular basis for the entirety of his career.

Now at Glasgow Rangers, Defoe is seeing out his playing career in style and won a league title with the Gers last term under the stewardship of Steven Gerrard.

During his meetings with Charlton over the years, the 38-year-old found the back of the net on nine occasions in 12 games, underlining his ability to make the difference in the final third during his time that was largely spent with Tottenham Hotspur.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid frontman was a deadly goal scorer during his heyday and is now passing on his wisdom as a coach for the Holland national team.

During seven games against the Addicks over the years, the Dutchman managed to notch eight goals for the Red Devils and became a real fans favourite during his successful spell at Old Trafford before departing for Spain with Madrid.

The striker also took in spells with Hamburg, PSV Eindhoven and Malaga before hanging up his boots after scoring an impressive 327 goals in 517 career games in what was a legendary playing career.

Well known to fans of the Sky Bet Championship, McCormack is best known for his solid spells with the likes of Cardiff City and Leeds United earlier in his career.

The Glasgow born frontman was a regular scorer at second tier level before being snapped up by Fulham for a substantial fee.

McCormack would go on to still score a fair amount for the Whites before then securing another lucrative move to Aston Villa where things went slightly down hill for the striker.

Fast forward the best part of five years and he now turns out for non league Aldershot Town.

The Scot notched up eight goals in nine games against the Addicks.

A powerful centre forward for both club and country, Melbourne born Viduka made a lasting impact on fans of the Premier League during his spells with the likes of Leeds United, Middlesbrough and Newcastle.

Capable of coming up with a wide variety of different goals, the striker would go on to become a legend to many and would often line up against the Addicks in the top flight.

Overall he went on to score eight goals in 13 games against Charlton and was always a handful for defenders during the best years of his career due to his strength and movement.

A player who is best known to Charlton fans for all the wrong reasons, Morison is a player who caused havoc for many defences in the Football League over the years.

A target man for Athletic's arch rivals Millwall, Morison went on to enjoy a solid record against his club's cross city rivals as he notched up seven goals in eight games.

Morison would go on to score just shy of 100 goals for the Lions and as a result is regarded as a legend by the club's fierce fanbase.

Someone that Charlton fans won't forget in a hurry, many will be glad that he has retired from playing.

Something of a journeyman striker in English football, Vokes has lined up against Charlton on several occasions for various EFL sides over the years.

Currently on the books of Stoke City, Vokes boasts a record of seven goals in nine games against the Addicks and has made his name as a powerful target man who is very good in the air.

The goals have somewhat dried up for the frontman in recent years but he still has plenty to offer moving forwards as he enters the final year of his current contract with the Potters.

Football League defences will have to deal with the big striker for a few more years yet.

A former Manchester United striker and currently the manager of the Red Devils, Solskjaer developed a reputation for being a super sub during hi9s playing days at Old Trafford and was seen by many as a real fox in the box finisher.

Often brought on late in matches by the great Sir Alex Ferguson, the Norwegian would usually come up with the goods when a chance came his way.

Indeed the 48-year-old went on to net seven goals in 11 games against the Addicks throughout his career in the north and would go on to win pretty much every honour available to him at club level in the process.
