Swansea City are currently attempting to improve their squad during the January transfer window as Steve Cooper's side try to break into the playoff places.

The Swans have identified young Chelsea centre-back Marc Guehi as a potential player who can come in to improve the squad, as the Championship side look set to beat Fulham to his signature.

Swansea defenders Joe Rodon and Mike Van Der Hoorn have had injuries across the past season, and Guehi will provide a different option at the back for the former Premier League side.

Here, we take a look at one winner and one loser if Swansea manage to secure the deal for Guehi...

Winner - Ben Cabango

The 19-year-old defender has recently had to come into the starting XI following injuries at the back, and despite some impressive performances, the Welshman could benefit from some more competition at the back.

Guehi could provide Cabango with some words of praise and support as the pair may find themselves used as a centre-back partnership at some point this season, and the current Swansea defender could benefit from less game-time across the next six months.

The 19-year-old Guehi will take some of the pressure off of Cabango's shoulders if he was to be called upon again over the next few months, and the Welshman may benefit from seeing how the Ivorian reacts on the pitch to certain situations having been in and around the Chelsea first-team under Frank Lampard this season.

Loser - Joe Rodon

The Wales international has been out injured since the end of October, and with Guehi's imminent addition to the Swansea squad, he could find it a struggle to get in ahead of the loanee.

While Rodon has the quality and potential to develop into a top-quality Championship centre-back over the next few years, the 22-year-old is built in a similar mould to Guehi and they will likely be competing for one spot in defence.

Both players are capable of passing the ball about in possession, and they are good in defensive situations when one-on-one with somebody and can challenge aerially.

If Cooper was going to decide that Guehi was an option he wanted available to him in defence, 22-year-old Rodon knows deep down that he might have to settle for a space on the bench across the rest of the season once he returns to full fitness, and his development may stall as a result.
