Over the weekend, Newcastle United were once again linked with a move for Queens Park Rangers left-back Ryan Manning.
According to the report from Football Insider, the Magpies sent scouts to Elland Road to watch the attacking full-back in action against Leeds United.
It has been a tough season for Newcastle, with fan disent rife following the departure of Rafa Benitez in the summer, but they are still in with a chance of survival – although it may come down to which teams have the best winter transfer window.
So, here we pick ONE winner and ONE loser in the Newcastle squad if Manning signs…
Would Ryan Manning get into Newcastle's starting line-up?
There is no doubt that Manning’s strengths lie in attack, having already racked up one goal and three assists so far this season.
For Joelinton, it has been far from an easy start to life in English football. As much as his individual performances have been poor the service also has largely been missing.
So bringing in another player with attacking intent, whose end product is usually spot on, will only help his goalscoring cause.
Loser: Paul Dummet
The left-back is already playing second choice to Jetro Willems and, with Bruce currently opting to use three centre-backs, it is unlikely that he will switch from the pacey option out wide any time soon.
Manning coming in will allow him to rotate Willems much more but maintain that attacking presence down the left-hand side.
With Ciaran Clark, Jamal Lascelles and Federico Fernandez seemingly a settled three as well, Dummet’s chances of breaking in there will also be limited – especially with the impending return of Fabian Schar.
