Gary Rowett has confirmed that goalkeeper Luke Steele is expected to return to Nottingham Forest this month as his underwhelming loan spell at The Den comes to an end.

Since arriving on his six-month loan deal, Steele has played just two games for The Lions, both in the League Cup, but has been in the first-team's matchday squad throughout the Championship campaign as well.

At 35 he is unlikely to break into the Forest first-team upon his return to the City Ground so another loan move away now seems more than likely.

Here, though, we take a look at ONE winner and ONE loser at The Den following this latest development...

Quiz – Can you remember Millwall’s last 15 league positions?

Frank Fielding

There is no doubt that Fielding is the biggest winner from this scenario.

The experienced shot-stopper picked up a seriously unfortunate injury during the opening game of the season and if that hadn't happened, there is a good chance he would still be first choice ahead of Bartosz Bialkowski.

But Steele's departure does at the very least secure second choice for Fielding when he does return from his injury in the not too distant future.

Jake Cooper

The centre-back has been an ever-present in the Millwall side so far this season, becoming an essential part of the defensive unit at the club.

As a result, he may well be the one who feels the absence of Steele most. Not directly, but with there being less competition for the goalkeeping spot, it could well lead to the levels of Bialkowski and Fielding dropping.

Therefore, his job may well become more difficult as a direct result of that drop in quality. It is not something that should be an issue for two experienced 'keepers, but it is something that may well be on the defender's mind.
