Bristol City could be set to lose a defender this month with Bailey Wright reportedly a target of second-tier rivals Luton Town.

According to the report from Football Insider, the Robins could be tempted to cash in on the 27-year-old now, rather than allow him to leave for nothing when his contract expires in the summer.

Wright is considerably down Johnson's pecking order at Ashton Gate this season, making just three appearances, with fellow centre-backs Tomas Kalas, Ashley Williams, Nathan Baker and Taylor Moore all ahead of him at the moment.

He signed for the club from Preston North End back in the January transfer window of 2017 but has gone on to make just 83 first-team appearances in that time.

Here we take a look at ONE winner and ONE loser at Ashton Gate if he were to depart...

Nathan Baker

Baker has been in and out of the team so far this season so he will undoubtedly benefit from the weakened competition for places at centre-back.

Ashley Williams, Tomas Kalas and Taylor Moore appear to be Johnson's preferred men for the role in varying combinations but Baker would be assured that he is definitely next in line if Wright were to leave.

It also gives him more chances to impress, given that when rotation happens, it will be an easier decision for Johnson to make regarding who comes in.

Daniel Bentley

On the flip side of things, goalkeeper Bentley would probably stand to lose the most from this move.

As a goalkeeper he will thrive on their being a fierce competition as possible in front of him, pushing the defenders on to play as well as they can in the process.

Whilst the departure of Wright is unlikely to have a huge effect in that respect, it could well lead to levels dropping, and Bentley will be the one more exposed if they do.
