Sheffield Wednesday didn't get off to the best of starts this weekend, going down 3-2 at recently-promoted Wigan Athletic and finishing the game with ten men.

Atdhe Nuhiu bagged a goal but also got himself sent off, with Fernando Forestieri grabbing the other Owls goal.

Both were futile as Wigan earned their first Championship points of the season and perhaps gave Wednesday an early taste of what to expect under their current working conditions.

They've been hit with a transfer embargo and will now be relying on the players currently at their disposal, rather than bringing in new faces.

In Forestieri they have a wonderful asset, so we've decided to shine our spotlight on him to see how he really did against the Latics.

The 28-year old played all 90 minutes of the defeat, but his performance reflected that of his team mates.

The score line perhaps flattered the visitors, who had eight shots compared to Wigan's 24, with four on target, compared to Wigan's ten.

Forestieri had just one of his sides shots, although it did result in his goal, the 67th minute strike which made it 3-2.

Other than that, Forestieri was quiet. It could be argued that a goal is enough to leave your mark on a game, but when you have the craft and guile of the Argentine-Italian, your impact should be far greater.

He made a single key pass, that in itself isn't bad, but through the whole game he made just thirty passes.

That could be a reflection of his sides woeful display, but also of how he simply became a part of the defeat, not someone trying to put it right.

He went on two successful dribbles too, a number far too low for his ability and for playing the whole 90 minutes.

Fernando Forestieri wasn't the only player to have a below average game, he contributed more than many of his team mates, but a player of his means should be having more influence than he did. Owls' fans will be hoping for more, much more, over the coming weeks.
