Southend United head into their game against AFC Wimbledon this weekend off the back of a 3-1 defeat away to Gillingham, with caretaker manager Gary Waddock seeing his side go down to goals from Alfie Jones, Stuart O'Keefe and Brandon Hanlan.

Waddock will no doubt be eager for his side to bounce back at home to fellow League One strugglers AFC Wimbledon this weekend, with the Dons themselves having also only won one game so far this season, in what has been a poor start to the season for both sides.

With the Blues having been convincingly beaten by Gillingham at Priestfield last time out, it is obvious where their problems lye, with the Essex based side having conceded 28 goals already this season, meaning they have the worst defeat in the division, making for grim reading.

Waddock will have this in the back of his mind when preparing his side for what will be a tough game against Wimbledon who have won their last two games in all competitions, beating Rochdale in the league last weekend and Leyton Orient in the Leasing.com Trophy last Tuesday.

Here we take a look at the XI we expect Waddock to pick to take on the Dons this Saturday....

We expect Waddock to stick with Mark Oxley in goal, with the experienced 29-year-old having performed well this season, despite the defenders in front of him not following suit.

Whilst we also expect to see the same back four which played in the defeat to Gillingham, with Harry Lennon and Rob Kiernan continuing in the centre of defence, whilst Bwomono and Demetriou once again take up their positions as full-backs.

In midfield, we can foresee Waddock bringing in Luke Hyam to partner Ethan Hamilton in the centre, with Australian midfielder Mark Milligan unavailable for this weekend's game due to being on international duty with the Aussie's national side, whilst Stephen McLaughlin and Isaac Hutchinson will likely take up their positions out wide once more.

Which leaves the experienced Simon Cox partnering youngster Stephen Humphrys in attack for the Blues, as they seek to pick up only their second win of the season this weekend.
