Championship duo Middlesbrough and West Brom could be put off in their hopes of landing Lincoln City manager Danny Cowley due to the compensation required.

According to respected journalist Alan Nixon, the newly promoted League One outfit have slapped a £1.5m compensation fee on the head of Cowley, who has attracted attention from some of the top end Championship clubs thanks to his achievements at Lincoln.

The Baggies and Boro are both desperate to sort out a new manager before the summer really kicks in to gear in terms of transfers, but the money involved to snatch Cowley from the clutches of the Imps could be enough to put both clubs off.

Both Albion and Boro will be keen to add new managers and have been linked with a host of different names in the last few weeks as well as Cowley, who has done a superb job with Lincoln in getting them to League One.

Cowley only took over with the Imps back in 2016 but has already led the club to two promotions in three seasons, an achievemen which has not gone unnoticed by onlooking clubs in the second tier.

The Verdict

The more this rumbles on the more you get the feeling that Cowley might stay put.

Lincoln don't seem to playing ball with the Championship clubs who are interested in signing Cowley, and while £1.5m isn't a huge sum, it might be enough for both the Baggies and Boro to look elsewhere.
