Wednesday have had a disappointing season, but these three players can help spearhead a promotion push next season.

Jos Luhukay has been manager for nearly three months, but hasn't had chance to field a side close to full strength yet. This shows the scale of the injury problem that is afflicting the squad, although the high average age probably hasn't helped in this regard.

This means that fans can look to next season with optimism because Wednesday have been hindered by external factors this season. The current squad can go a lot further than their current position even if they don't sign anyone new as long as the majority of players avoid any long-term injury issues.

Whether Luhukay is the manager to deliver success is another issue altogether. However, he prefers a 3-5-2 formation, so here's a look at the three-man midfield that could dominate the Championship next season.

Wednesday fans... do you agree? let us know below!

Pelupessy was Luhukay's first signing at the club in the January transfer window.

He has impressed in the chances he has been given even if he has played alongside a variety of different midfielders.

The £1.35m-rated midfielder has the potential to be an excellent pivot in front of the defence because he is comfortable on the ball and has the ability to ensure possession is moved in forward areas. This is impressive considering how deep Wednesday play under Luhukay, which means the strikers can be easily isolated if they aren't properly supported by the midfield.

He also has the necessary defensive ability to thrive in this role, but needs to focus on his disciplinary issues because he picks up too many silly yellow cards which impede his ability to close down the opposition effectively.

Hutchinson is another strong option in this position, but Pelupessy is better with the ball. However, Hutchinson would be an excellent alternative to have and Luhukay could effectively rotate between them in order to limit fatigue.

Bannan has missed a large chunk of the season due to injury and his presence has been sorely missed. The Scottish midfielder returned in the last game against Leeds and helped Wednesday come away with a much-needed three points.

His versatility is useful because he can play in a variety of roles. In a 3-5-2 formation, he is best used as a deep-lying playmaker or box-to-box midfielder depending on the opposition.

If the Owls are controlling the game then he is best used as a deep-lying playmaker in order to pick holes in the opposition for the forward players to use. However, he would be better used as a box-to-box midfielder if the opposition is in control because it would ensure that Wednesday have a way to progress up the pitch as well as making sure that the forwards are connected to the rest of the team.

Him and Pelupessy could form an excellent partnership due to their styles complimenting well offensively and defensively.

In front of the two midfielders should be Fernando Forestieri. He is the main creative outlet in the team and they have missed his ability to break down teams with moments of individual brilliance throughout the entire season. It's no coincidence that the team have played poorly in attacking areas without him because he has only been involved in two league games this season.

The attacking midfield role in this formation is ideal for him because of the freedom it offers. He can drift into dangerous areas in a free role while acting as a link between the forwards and the midfield.

His presence on the pitch attracts players towards him due to his importance in Wednesday's setup. Therefore, this means the other attacking players have more space and time to work in. Him and Bannan have worked well together previously, so if Pelupessy can form a good understanding with them then they could be a deadly and decisive trio in a key area for the Owls.
