Steve Bruce finally appears to have found the right formula at Aston Villa, with his side looking capable of a promotion push for the first time in almost a year under the 56-year-old.

A slow start to the season saw pressure once again mount on Bruce, but his extremely talented squad are beginning to turn things around, which has left the play-offs within reach heading into October.

Four consecutive victories has left Villa seventh in the Sky Bet Championship table, with Bruce’s side now just a single point behind sixth placed, Preston North End.

As mentioned, Villa have one of the Championship’s most talented squads, but we believe Bruce may look to strengthen during the January transfer window, as he looks to guarantee that Villa will be fighting to make it out of the second-tier late in the season.

With that in mind, here is a look at TWO players we believe Villa should look to sign this January…

James Wilson

Wilson is struggling for an opportunity at Manchester United, with the striker limited to just four Premier League 2 appearances this season for the Red Devils.

The 21-year-old has had spells on-loan in the Championship before, featuring for both Derby County and Brighton and Hove Albion.

Another loan is likely to be the only way Villa can lure Wilson away from Old Trafford, and Bruce should be using his connections with Manchester United to strike what could be an exciting January deal.

Daniel Pudil

Neil Taylor is Aston Villa’s first choice left-back, and that is likely to remain the same whatever business Bruce does in January.

However, Villa are in desperate need of cover for Taylor, who at this current time, is the club’s only recognised senior left-back.

£1.35m-rated Pudil could be perfect for Villa, and the 32-year-old is certainly a realistic target, with Carlos Carvalhal preferring Adam Reach at left-back in Sheffield Wednesday’s key fixtures, whilst also able to call on Morgan Fox.
