It is looking like it will be a cagey final third of the season for Sunderland, who are slipping into further relegation trouble in the Sky Bet Championship, with back-to-back relegations looking a real possibility.

Saturday saw Sunderland suffer their 16th defeat of the Championship season, losing 2-0 to Brentford at the Stadium of Light, which has left Chris Coleman’s side in 23rd, three points adrift of safety heading into the final 14 fixtures of the campaign.

It was another frustrating afternoon for Sunderland against Brentford, with Coleman’s side failing to put the pressure on those slightly ahead of them in the Championship’s relegation fight.

Saturday was a frustrating afternoon in particular for John O’Shea at the heart of defence, and here at FLW, we take a look at the Sunderland captain’s stats:

O’Shea completed 90 minutes in central defence, but failed to make a tackle during the game.

The experienced 36-year-old’s contribution defensively was far from convincing, with O’Shea managing to make just two interceptions, six clearances and win just two of his aerial duels at the Stadium of Light.

O’Shea’s passing stats brought a little bit of comfort, with the defender completing 27 passes at a success rate of 70.4% on an extremely difficult afternoon.
