Two days later and Middlesbrough are still feeling the effects of a disappointing afternoon at Elland Road.

A 4-0 defeat hardly tells the story of a woeful display against Leeds United where everything went wrong for Jonathan Woodgate's side.

Of course the result has to be blamed on Middlesbrough as a collective, but that doesn't mean that individual players can shy away from criticism.

One player who enjoyed a less than successful day was Dael Fry.

The defender has been one of Middlesbrough's best so far this term but fell painfully short of his usually-high standards at Elland Road.

Let's take a look at what went wrong for the young centre back.

Let's get this straight, Dael Fry was not the only man at fault against Leeds United - but he certainly didn;t cover himself in glory.

The defender showed signs of encouragement as he stepped out of defence to try and move Middlesbrough up the field, but unfortunately the quality just wasn't there.

Fry had a pass success rate of just 58.3% at Elland Road - a stat which goes a long way to explaining why the Teessiders struggled to build from the back.

Leeds United are a quality team going forward and gave Middlesbrough plenty to worry about as they were pegged back in their own half.

Patrick Bamford in particular caused allsorts of issues for the defenders with his intelligent movement stopping them from settling into the game.

Over the 90 minutes, Fry managed no tackles, no blocks and just one interception against Leeds United. This shows just how easy it was for the hosts to play their natural game.

Fry will no doubt come up against much easier opposition than Leeds in the coming weeks, but this performance must be a wake up call for the defender as this sort of performance is far from the level needed to get Middlesbrough out of trouble.
