Aston Villa tasted defeat for the first time in the league in 2018 at the weekend as Fulham ran out 2-0 winners at Craven Cottage.

The men from Villa Park have had a good calendar year to really lift themselves into the automatic promotion picture and a win or even draw at the weekend would have been a very positive result.

A loss is what came, though, along with a performance that lacked the intensity and quality of the game before against Birmingham City.

An off-day for Villa, then, and an off-day for our latest FLW Spotlight subject - John Terry:

Terry, of course, has been absolutely brilliant for Villa this season in bringing his experience and knowledge to the fore in the Championship.

Certainly, signing him has proven to be a gamble worth taking for the club but he was perhaps not has influential at the back as he'd have liked and Villa seemed to be a bit off of the pace.

Not helped by the lack of pressure that was applied further forwards by Villa, Terry and co. at the back had to deal with a confident Fulham side and, ultimately, they could not keep them quiet.

No tackles and just one interception are stats from a defender that perhaps did not have their best game and - though he was not the main man at fault for the loss - Terry will be looking to get himself and his team-mates back on form v Preston.
