Birmingham City have had a mixed campaign, with Pep Clotet's side languishing in the bottom half of the Championship, although they aren't really in serious relegation trouble.

In a way, Blues' season has perfectly reflected the summer transfer business they did. Some signings were good, some okay, some bad.

Unfortunately, winger Jefferson Montero falls into the latter category - as our graphic shows.

The rapid winger was signed on loan in the August window and many saw him as a pretty risk-free signing that could pay off. After all, Montero had shone in the past for Swansea and would bring much-needed pace and width to the team.

However, it hasn't gone to plan at all for the player or Blues.

In fairness, it should be stated that injuries haven't helped Montero at all. He was forced off just 30 minutes into his first start and has struggled since.

Quite simply, zero goals or assists from a wide man in 14 league games is just not good enough, even if many of those appearances have been from the bench. Like any other attacking player, they are the statistics that Montero is judged on and they are abysmal.

Blues signed him to give them something different in the final third and it just hasn't worked out, whilst his attitude and desire on the pitch hasn't looked as though it has always been there, with fans growing increasingly frustrated at how the Ecuador international has applied himself this season.

Of course, it's not all down to Montero and Birmingham are not an easy team to play in for an attacking player as they aren't a side that will dominate possession or create chance after chance.

And, 26 progressive runs, along with 17 shot assists show that Montero has done something right and sometimes it's simply that his teammates haven't done enough when he has provided an opportunity.

QUIZ: Can you name the player who scored the first Birmingham City goal in each of the last 16 seasons?

Ultimately though, Clotet would have had high hopes for the quick winger but he has recognised quickly that this is a move that doesn't work out. When the season does resume, Montero's appearances will be rare and he will be moved on in the summer having made no real impact on Birmingham City.
