Middlesbrough’s promotion ambitions have been thrown into serious jeopardy in recent weeks, losing their last four matches on the trot.

Tony Pulis and his troops looked set to be involved in the contest for the top-two all the way for most of the season but over the last month have seriously fallen off the pace and out of the top-six entirely.

Adam Webster’s goal for Bristol City on Tuesday night was enough to consign the North East club to another loss and heap more pressure on Pulis ahead of the final seven matches of the season.

But he has not exactly been helped by some of his signings, in particular, Rajiv van La Parra.

Throughout the season, it was clear that Boro badly needed more attacking menace out wide having not replaced Adama Traore.

In January, Huddersfield winger van La Parra was brought in, and it looked like an excellent move from the club.

He was an ever present in the Terriers’ promotion winning campaign but not recreate that form at the Riverside.

Just three appearances were made, averaging less than a shot per game, just two dribbles per game and winning just over one foul per match.

He certainly was not the impactful arrival Boro fans hoped for and was shipped back to Huddersfield soon after arriving, surely making him one of the club’s worst ever loan deals.
