Everton have been linked with Sheffield United striker Daniel Jebbison once again.

With Dominic Calvert-Lewin's injury meaning that Frank Lampard is desperately short of central striking options, Football League World understands that the Toffees remain interested in the Blades teenager.

They had an offer rejected last summer but Everton believe that the 19-year-old, while a target for his long-term potential, could help to solve their current problems.

Jebbison has dismissed the links as flattering and emphasised that his focus remains on how he can contribute for Paul Heckingbottom's side in the Championship this season but that could all change if the prospect of Premier League football becomes realistic.

With a year left on his deal at Bramall Lane, you feel United will have to listen to any sensible offers for Jebbison, which means that a move before the window closes at the start of September could happen.

Everton have seen firsthand what the young striker can offer as he scored the winner against them in May 2021 – becoming the youngest Premier League scorer in Blades' history as a result – but we've taken a look at his stats from last season to outline what they be getting.

Jebbison spent the first half of last season out on loan with League One side Burton Albion and his impressive form for the Brewers – nine goals in 23 appearances – encouraged United to bring him back to Bramall Lane in January and keep him around the first team squad in 2022/23.

Opportunities were harder to come by as part of Heckingbottom's squad and he featured eight times in the second half of the season without registering a goal or an assist.

As per Wyscout, he played 1895 minutes of football for both United and Burton last season, bagging nine goals in total and averaging 0.43 goals per 90 – marginally below his xG of 9.48 and average xG per 90 of 0.45 but very similar to Calvert-Lewin's averages across his career (0.4).

That is not the only parity with Everton's number nine as Jebbison also averaged 2.48 shots per game (48.9% on target) which again is similar to the England international 2.3 shots per 90 (47.4% on target) thro

One of the things that sets Jebbison apart is his clever movement – something he says he has learnt from studying Calvert-Lewin's game – and his impressive average of 3.7 touches in the opposition box per 90 is a product of that.

His acceleration often allows him to get to the ball ahead of defenders but he's not afraid to make the most of it with the ball at his feet either. Last term, Jebbison averaged 3.18 dribbles (46.3% of which were successful), and 1.19 progressive runs per 90.

Though not hugely involved in link-up play last term, averaging just 11.4 passes and 8.03 received passes per 90, the 19-year-old looked after possession fairly well last term, as his 72.1% pass accuracy shows, and rarely made a mistake when it mattered – connecting with 94.7% of his passes to the final third in 2021/22.

At 6ft3ins, the Blades forward cuts a significant figure but his low aerial duel success rate, 17.6% of 7.03 duels per 90, is no huge surprise given he is still just 19 and has been coming up against senior level centre-backs. It should improve in the coming seasons as he strengthens.

The teenager's work rate out of possession encouraged Heckingbottom to give him a chance at senior level during the latter part of the 2020/21 Premier League campaign. Last season, he averaged 4.13 defensive duels (62.1% success), 8.69 loose ball duels (25.1% success), and 1.76 interceptions per 90.

While he's not the finished article, there's an awful lot to like about Jebbison and his 2021/22 stats show a player with impressive all-round ability.

The Toffees opted against signing him as an academy player before he moved to Bramall Lane and though they'll have to get the chequebook out to do so, you can see why they're considering righting that wrong this summer.
