After six months in charge of Sheffield Wednesday, Steve Bruce looks set to become the new manager of Premier League side Newcastle United following the departure of Rafa Benitez.

The Guardian claim that after asking for permission to speak to the Owls manager, Bruce is poised to become the new manager of the Magpies, after he held talks with the North East club.

It would undoubtedly be a big blow for Wednesday if they were to lose Bruce - he turned their fortunes around after a dismal start to the season under Jos Luhukay last term, going unbeaten in his opening 11 games in charge.

With pre-season training well underway for the Owls, the club will look to make a swift appointment, with plenty of experienced options out there for Dejphon Chansiri to consider.

Plenty of Wednesday fans have already identified who they want to replace Bruce if he leaves for Newcastle, and that man is a former Newcastle boss in Chris Hughton.

The 60-year-old was sacked by Brighton and Hove Albion at the end of last season, despite helping the Seagulls avoid relegation to the Championship for another year.

The experienced boss has experience of getting out of the Championship, winning promotion with both the Magpies and the Seagulls in 2010 and 2017 respectively.

Here, we take a look at what Owls fans are saying about Hughton on Twitter...
