Football League World’s Rotherham United fan pundit Luke Pickford has called for the club to be proactive and provide Paul Warne with more options in the final third.

The Millers were relegated from the Championship last season and have made an underwhelming start to life back in League One.

Rotherham are ninth in the league and have scored less goals than all but one of the sides above them in the table.

According to the Yorkshire Post, the Millers are set to take former Newcastle United striker Callum Roberts on trial after he has impressed for Blyth Spartans in the National League North.

The Millers are already seven points off the play-off places and Pickford has suggested he’d like to see the club add some more firepower.

Asked if he thought Rotherham need to add more reinforcements up front, he said: “Personally, yes.

“With the likes of new summer signings Freddie Ladapo and Carlton Morris, you could see that the club intended to add more firepower.

“Michael Smith looked good in the Championship last season but the club just needs extra pace.

“I feel with the likes of Jon Taylor and Anthony Forde leaving Rotherham were left without any real wingers.”

He added: “Having the option of a new striker would add depth and allow Warne to adopt another formation if we necessary.”

Rotherham face a tough test on the weekend as they welcome Coventry City to the New York City Stadium.

The Sky Blues are fourth in the table and eight points above the Yorkshire club in League One.
