Middlesbrough centre-back Aden Flint is reportedly closing in on a switch to Cardiff City and many Leeds United fans are relieved he isn't heading to Elland Road, despite the exit of Pontus Jansson.

According to BBC Tees Sport, the 30-year-old is set to leave the Riverside and a £4 million fee has been agreed between the two sides.

It is understood that Flint will have a medical with the Welsh club in the next 24 hours.

The defender joined Middlesbrough from Cardiff's rivals Bristol City last summer for £7 million and made 41 appearances during his debut season at the North East club.

Flint signed a four-year deal when he arrived at the Riverside last summer but it appears that new boss Jonathan Woodgate is now happy to offload the six-foot-six centre-back

Leeds have also seen a towering central defender depart this summer, with Jansson having left Elland Road to join Brentford last week.

Respected journalist Phil Hay has suggested there is "no sign" of the Whites signing a replacement for the Swede and indicated that Bielsa sees summer arrival Ben White as the partner for Liam Cooper at the back this season.

Leeds have been linked with a move for Flint in the past but despite there being no sign of a move for a Jansson replacement it seems many fans of the club are pleased that he won't be moving to Elland Road.
