Wigan Athletic are set to complete a move for Stoke City goalkeeper Jakob Haugaard, according to sports journalist Pete O'Rourke.

24-year-old 'keeper Haugaard is set to complete a loan move to Warren Joyce's team for the rest of the season. The Danish stopper will be hoping to get some much needed game time under his belt and also help Wigan stave off relegation back to League One.

Haugaard joined Stoke in 2015 from Danish outfit FC Midtjylland, but has thus far failed to make much of an impression on Mark Hughes. With Stoke recently completing a deal for Lee Grant and Jack Butland out long term, it is clear that Hughes is not ready to put his faith in Haugaard just yet.

Wigan have been struggling this season in the Championship and find themselves firmly in a relegation battle as we head into the crucial winter months of the second half of the season.

The signing of Haugaard should hopefully be a timely boost to a leaky defence and Joyce will be hoping signing a 'keeper from the top flight should well give his squad an excellent burst of confidence for the rest of the campaign.
