AC Milan are considering a move for Wigan Athletic left-back Antonee Robinson, a report from Sky Sports Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed.

The Serie A outfit are reportedly keen to add a full-back to their ranks following the departure of Ricardo Rodriguez, who is leaving the club to join Turkish joints Fenerbache.

According to the latest reports, one option who has emerged for Milan to potentially fulfil that role is Robinson.

The United States international only joined Wigan on a permanent deal from Premier League Everton in the most recent summer transfer window, having spent last season on loan from the Toffees at the DW Stadium.

In total, Robinson has made 54 appearances in all competitions for Paul Cook's side, who are currently 23rd in the Championship standings, having won just one of their last 15 league games.

There are currently two-and-a-half-years remaining on Robinson's contract with the Latics, securing his future with Wigan until the end of the 2021/22 season.

As well as Robinson, it is also thought that Hearts' 17-year-old defender Aaron Hickey is a potential target for Milan, who are tenth in the Italian top-flight as things stand, ten points adrift of the top four.

The Verdict

This would be quite something.

Although Robinson has arguably been one of Wigan's best performers this season, and Milan are not the side they once were, this would still be quite a step up for the left-back to make.

Going from a Championship relegation battle to the top flight of Italian football is unlikely to be an easy adjustment to make, especially given the expectation there is around a club such as Milan.

That being said, the Italian icons should have more than enough funds to makes this happen should they wish to do so, and it is hard to see Robinson wanting to turn down an opportunity such as this if it does indeed come along, which would be another big blow to Wigan's hopes of survival this season.
