West Bromwich Albion have offered Nathan Ferguson a new five-year contract, following reported interest in the defender from Crystal Palace, according to The Telegraph.

The 19-year-old has been one of the standout players for West Brom in the Championship this season and has played a key role Albion's promising start to the campaign under Slaven Bilic.

The full-back has been with the club since the age of eight and has progressed through the ranks at Hawthorns. After making his first-team debut in August, the teenager has gone on to start ten games in the Championship, impressing at both left-back and right-back.

The Daily Mail reported earlier today that Crystal Palace are keen on signing the defender in the January transfer window to replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka, but this latest report from The Telegraph states that West Brom plan to reject any offers for him.

The Baggies, who are currently top of the Championship table, are hopeful that Ferguson will commit his long-term future to the Hawthorns and are currently in talks with him over a lucrative five-year contract.

Discussions with the player's representatives are thought to be progressing well and the club are hopeful that he will sign the new deal before the end of the month.

The Verdict

This is great news for West Brom fans. Ferguson is a talented young player and he's shown with his performances so far this season that he could have a very bright future ahead of him.

An experienced coach like Slaven Bilic should be able to get the best out of him and help him improve, and it looks like he's going to have a key role to play in West Brom's promotion push this season.

There's every chance that he could be tempted by a move to Crystal Palace, so it's absolutely vital that West Brom are able to get him tied down to a new long-term deal.
