Football League World's Charlton Athletic fan pundit Robert Smith says he wants to see the club bring in a new striker this month even if Lyle Taylor stays.

Taylor has been heavily linked with a move away from The Valley this month, with Bristol City the latest side to throw their hat in the ring.

But Smith does not think Taylor's situation should alter what the club are doing and wants to see attacking reinforcements brought in regardless.

"Regardless or the Taylor situation I believe we need a forward," the regular punter told Football League World.

"The January window is notoriously difficult to get the right quality, especially in the attacking areas.

"(Jonson) Clarke-Harris from Bristol Rovers has been mentioned so they could pursue that one but we wait to see in the last week what these new owners are all about."

QUIZ: Can you name these 11 Charlton Athletic flops?

So far this season Taylor has notched seven goals but does not sit top of scoring charts. That honour goes to summer signing Macauley Bonne, who has netted eight, but is currently sidelined with an injury.

With 29 matches played, Lee Bowyer's side currently sit in 19th place and just six points above the relegation zone as we head into the business end of the season.

So far this month the only new signing to arrive at The Valley is versatile forward Andre Green, who came in on loan from Aston Villa until the end of the season.

Next up for The Addicks is a huge clash with Barnsley, and a loss could see them sitting just three points above the relegation zone again.
