Football League World's Charlton Athletic fan pundit Robert Smith has provided his verdict on Erhun Oztumer's time at the club so far, with the Turkish midfielder having joined from League One side Bolton Wanderers this summer.

Oztumer has been largely ineffectual for the club so far, with the 28-year-old having only appeared three times for the Addicks, whilst also failing to either score or assist any goals to date, in what has been a largely underwhelming start to life in Greenwich for the ex-Walsall man.

We asked Smith how he would sum up Oztumer's time at the Valley so far, to which he replied:

"Flashes of what he can do, but we need to see more.

"He was man of the match in his first game against Nottingham Forest and really ran the show in the final third but hasn’t hit those heights since.

"But he has only played three times this season, so he needs to have a good run of games before we can pass proper judgement."

Smith was then asked if the Turkish playmaker had impressed him so far, to which he responded:

"On balance he has impressed, he looked a real find during his first game, but looks like a player who Bowyer will use sparingly right now in certain types of games.

"I think when we play against robust opposition he may get overlooked, so it’s vitally important that when he does play, that he makes a real impact when he’s given the nod."

Before our fan pundit then gave his thoughts on whether he felt Oztumer would enjoy a good future career with the club:

"Absolutely no reason why he won’t, he’s a local lad who was released by the club as a teenager so he’s back close to home with a point to prove.

"He has a manager in Bowyer who will encourage him to play with an attacking freedom, so he definitely has the right environment to succeed."

It will certainly be interesting to see how Oztumer progresses at Charlton this season, particularly as he is a player who has undoubted talent, but has so far yet to display it on a regular basis for the Addicks this term.
