Watford defender Tommie Hoban has told watfordfc.com that the team can learn from their mistakes, after their 2-2 draw with Shrewsbury on Saturday.

Hoban was on the scoresheet for the Hornets on Saturday, as they went two goals up, but conceded two late goals which saw the Shrews get back on level terms.

Cristian Battocchio was first on the scoreboard for Watford in the first half, with Hoban then coming on in the second half to score from a scrambled free kick after minutes of being on the pitch.

Micky Mellon then gave Scott Vernon the nod to come on, which got Shrewsbury on level terms after he netted a brace in the last ten minutes.

Conceding late goals and letting valuable leads slip was a key factor on why Watford failed to reach the play-offs last year, and its less than a month to go now until the Hornets kick their Championship campaign off at Vicarage Road against Dougie Freedman's Bolton, and they need to be prepared for another ambitious season.

“I think it’s important for everyone to get a good 45 minutes under their belt like that,” Hoban told Hornets Player.
“It sets us up well going into the new season.”
When asked to assess the two goal lead the Hornets let slip at Greenhous Meadow, the youth graduate replied, “I think for the majority of the game we were in control and on top,” before adding, "Obviously the result is a little disappointing but we’ve got to iron out the mistakes and learn from them.”
Hoban missed a fair bit of last season due to recovering from an Achilles heal injury, but after being back in action the twenty-year old is excited heading into the 2014-15 campaign along with his teammates.
“We are all looking forward to it and I’m sure it’s going to be a big season for us," the youngster said, “We’ve had a tough three weeks in Austria and everybody’s really looking forward to it now - we can’t wait to get it underway."
Hoban is one of many options for Watford boss Giuseppe Sannino in defence, with the Golden Boys already snapping up Craig Cathcart and Gabriel Tamas on a free, along with them bringing in Ecuador international Juan Carlos Paredes.
