Brian McDermott is looking to bolster his attacking options by tracking young Arsenal forward Alex Iwobi, according to Get Reading (via Daily Mail).

Having sold leading scorer Nick Blackman to Derby County for £2.5 million a few days ago, the Royals are clearly prioritising a replacement.

Iwobi could be that man, and it is believed that McDermott sees him as the striker who can get the goals for Reading over the second half of the season.

It is as of yet unknown what Iwobi's situation is at the Emirates Stadium regarding letting him leave the club at the present time, but Reading are clearly hopeful.

Well regarded in the Gunners academy system, the Nigerian is on the verge of the first-team at the Emirates Stadium, and came off the bench in a Champions League game against Bayern Munich this season.

If the Blackman money is reinvested in the squad, Reading fans will hope that Iwobi can be as efficient as Blackman was in front of goal before his move.

Reading currently find themselves in 12th place in the Championship table, with a push for the play-offs looks unlikely at this stage, so McDermott will be looking to build a competitive enough squad to really challenge at the top end of the league next season.
