Nottingham Forest have put an asking price of £18million on in-demand defender Matty Cash, according to a report in the The Sun, with AC Milan, Everton and West Ham all interested in landing the 22-year-old during the January transfer window.

Cash has been in excellent form so far this season for Forest as Lamouchi's side push for promotion to the Premier League and look like they will play hard-ball with any potential Cash suitors, by pushing for the maximum fee they can for a player who came up through the club's youth ranks and signed senior terms back-in 2016.

So, is £18m a fair price tag for Cash?

"I mean there is no way on earth he is worth close to £18 million but that is modern football, and Forest are perfectly entitled to do it.

"They will not want to lose Cash this month, hence the inflated price, and with the likes of AC Milan showing their interest, they may as well try to get as much from the deal as possible.

"But I suspect this is more to put off any suitors who may be contemplating a move for the right-back.

"With Lamouchi and co still in the race for promotion I cannot see Cash being eager to leave this month either."

“When you consider that English players often demand premium prices in today’s market, Forest’s £18m valuation of Cash is understandable.

“One of the Reds’ stand-out performers this season, the 22-year-old’s fortunes have been transformed by Sabri Lamouchi who has opted to use him as a full-back in recent months.

“Currently excelling in this role, Cash has illustrated that he is more than capable of reading the game in a defensive sense whilst also providing a considerable threat going forward.

“Given just how important the former Dagenham and Redbridge loanee is to Forest, they should be doing everything they can to keep him at the club this month as selling him could have a negative impact on their chances of achieving promotion.”

George Harbey

"I think £18m is far too cheap for a player of Cash's ability, and Forest fans should rightfully demand their club to ask for much higher should they ever be in a position where they look likely to sell him.

"Cash has been nothing short of a revelation for Nottingham Forest this season, and for me, he's far too underrated. He was a natural winger up until the final week of pre-season, and was quickly converted into a right-back following a lengthy injury to Tendayi Darikwa.

"But considering his age and lack of experience in that position, he has been tremendous this season, coming up against some quality attacking players and not looking out of place once. He has all the makings of a modern-day full-back as he can defend and look so threatening on the overlap going forward.

"For a 22-year-old who is under contract until the summer of 2023, Forest have got to be looking for much more than £18m. They should definitely be looking towards the £25m mark, in my view."
