The 2019/20 season has been a difficult one for Luton Town on their return to the Championship, with the Hatters sitting 23rd with just nine matches to play.

With 35 points from their 37 completed fixtures, the Bedfordshire side are currently six points adrift of safety and have struggled defensively all season.

Having conceded 71 goals already, no side has seen their defence breached more often, while only three teams have a worse record in front of goal.

Graeme Jones' team did not spend heavily in the summer following promotion, despite the sale of Jack Stacey and James Justin, and the club appear determined not to allow financial issues to affect their long-term future like they did in the past.

Therefore, if they are relegated they could be forced to sell once again and here, we look at the two players likely to attract most interest.

James Collins

Top scorer in League One last season, the Republic of Ireland international has handled the step up to the Championship well.

From 37 appearances he has scored 11 goals and provided three assists, while also taking 1.8 shots per game on average.

At 29 years of age, he still has a few seasons of his peak remaining and with a record of scoring goals everywhere he has played, he would be a canny addition to any club towards the bottom end of the Championship.

Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu

A player who has come through the levels with Luton, Mpanzu has showed he is capable of performing at Championship level this term.

In his seventh season at the club, the 26-year-old has made 31 league starts in midfield and has once again impressed with his dribbling and defensive work.

Having joined Luton when they were in the National League, he could earn the club good profit and with the player himself just entering his prime, he should be able to test himself at a bigger club.
