Leeds United take on Brentford tonight and it seems as though winger Jack Clarke could once again miss out on a place in the squad.

Championship clubs are only allowed to have five loan players in the matchday 18 and the academy graduate, who rejoined on loan after completing a summer move to Tottenham, is one of six temporary signings at Elland Road.

Illan Meslier is needed on the bench as a backup to Kiko Casilla, whilst Ben White and Jack Harrison are first-team regulars right now.

That leaves two spots and it's no surprise to see that the talented Helder Costa and Eddie Nketiah have been preferred to Clarke, with the pair expected to make huge impacts in the league over the coming months.

Therefore, there will be a real concern for Clarke, and Spurs, that he won't get many opportunities with the Whites this season and he was the one to miss out as Leeds recorded a comfortable victory at Wigan on Saturday.

Of course, things can change extremely quickly in football and an injury to one of those players will give the teenager a chance, whilst impressing for the U23s and in training will go a long way with Marcelo Bielsa.

But, there's no denying that things don't look good for Clarke and he will be worried that a lack of minutes now will hinder his progress.

Anyone who saw the winger play for the Whites last season will recognise just how much ability he has. He can beat opponents with ease, go inside and out, whilst he showed composure when picking out a final ball regularly.

Yet, he was by no means the finished article and, like most players his age, he still needs to develop and improve aspects of his game and that will come through playing.

Spurs have seen his progress at Elland Road in the past 12 months and will have felt sending him back to Yorkshire was exactly what Clarke needed, with Bielsa a top coach for improving youngsters.

But, nothing truly compares to playing when it comes to helping a youngster fulfill his potential and there will be worry from the player and the Champions League finalists that his career will stall.

A failure to kick-on during this campaign could make it hard for the wide man to break through in north London and he could quickly become forgotten when you consider the talent that Mauricio Pochettino has in the final third.

Ultimately though, even at this early stage of the season, Clarke and Spurs may be regretting the decision to go back to Leeds if he is watching the side from the stands once again this evening.
