Sheffield Wednesday have bounced back this season from last years playoff heartbreak and they are right in the mix for another top six finish.

The Owls currently sit just inside the top six but they will have to keen up their good form to keep in form Derby County at bay.

Carlos Carvalhal has rejuvenated Wednesday over the last 18 months and has given them the most successful run they have had in a long time. Wednesday's Portuguese boss has built up a great squad at Hillsborough, which you could argue is one of the strongest in the division.

Keeping hold of Fernando Forestieri on the summer was a key piece of business from Wednesday and the additions of Steven Fletcher and Almen Abdi give Wednesday a different option if needed.

A playoff place isn't nailed down yet though; Wednesday need to recruit in January really cement their spot in the top six and keep the chasing back at bay.

Here, FLW writer Chris Wilson takes a look at THREE players who Wednesday should sign next week...

Jordan Rhodes

Rhodes is well out of favour at the Riverside and he has fallen even further down the pecking order since the arrival of Rudy Gestede. He won't be short of suitors in the Championship given his fine record at this level, but he is definitely an attainable target for The Owls.

Rhodes uses his footballing knowledge to score most of his goals. He has a knack of being in the right place at the right time, which is why he is so prolific. With the quality Wednesday have out wide supplying him with chances, Rhodes could easily notch up 10 goals before the end of the season.

Daniel Ayala

Like Rhodes, Ayala is out of favour at Middlesbrough and he could leave Teeside this month. The Spaniard is fourth choice centre back at Boro, and after a great season last season, in which he was a key player for Middlesbrough, he would be a shrewd addition for any Championship club.

Wednesday's current centre half pairing of Lees and Loovens isn't bad but Ayala would definitely be an improvement on Loovens. Ayala is an out and out defender who is willing to put his body on the line, but he can also play a bit too, so he would definitely fit into the Wednesday team.

Tendayi Darikwa

Darikwa is struggling for game time at Burnley at the minute and he is the third choice right back for Sean Dyche. The Zimbabwean full back signed for the Clarets from Chesterfield last summer and made an immediate impact but he was later displaced and never won his spot back.

Darikwa has the ability to bomb up and down the wing and supply quality into the box, which is essential for the modern day full back. Wednesday have currently got Jack Hunt at right back who has been doing well this season, but beyond that, their options are fairly limited at right back
