Rotherham managed to scrap their way to survival last season, despite being a long way adrift at one point and another season of struggle lies ahead.

They brought in nearly 20 free agents in a complete overhaul of the squad at the start of the season, and a terrible start cost Steve Evans his job.

Things did not get better under Redfearn and he was promptly sacked and replaced by experienced Championship boss Neil Warnock.

Warnock did a wonderful job leading them to survival with 6 wins in their final 13 games, with notable wins over Middlesbrough and Sheffield Wednesday.

But already this summer they have lost key players like top scorer Matt Derbyshire and Danny Collins, and need a lot of new players.

After Warnock left at the end of the season he was replaced by Hibernian manager Alan Stubbs, who led Hibernian to a Scottish Cup win but failed to win promotion.

Rotherham surviving is a major challenge for Stubbs and he will need to bring in some talented youngsters, and here are THREE PL Players that must be signed by Alan Stubbs for Rotherham......

Sam Gallagher

gallagher

The young Southampton striker is the future at St Mary's and he made his breakthrough in the 2013-14 season playing 15 games for the Premier League side.

He played very well against Arsenal and scored his first Premier League goal for Southampton against Norwich.

After drifting into obscurity the following season he joined the MK Dons on loan last season and whilst providing some assists failed to score in a disappointing loan spell for the England U19 star.

With Rotherham losing top scorer Matt Derbyshire they desperately need new strikers and youngster Sam Gallagher would show intent.

Carlos De Pena

Carlos De Penapolo

The 24-year-old Uruguayan winger has bags of potential but struggled to break through at Middlesbrough last season.

After impressing at Uruguayan side Nacional with 15 goals in 58 games, he moved to Middlesbrough and made 6 appearances last season but mainly off the bench or in cups.

He struggled to break into the first team and adapt to the physicality of the English game.

Given time his pace and technical ability will shine through, but he needs some game time at a lower level in order to adapt as he is unlikely to get game time in the Premier League.

Rotherham are lacking wingers since releasing Green and Ledesma, and could do with a creative spark like De Pena.

Dom Telford

telford

The 19- year-old striker signed for Stoke last summer and played very well for the development squad, but does have previous experience in the Championship.

He did play for the beleaguered Blackpool side suffering from financial turmoil and were relegated, but Telford was a bright spark.

The turmoil helped him gain some valuable experience playing 14 times and scoring his first senior goal against Rotherham of all sides.

He will most likely spend another year in the development squad at Stoke unless a side comes in for him and Rotherham need strikers ever since selling Derbyshire, Telford can join other young talent up front like Jonson Clarke Harris.
