Sheffield United still remain in League One, despite many thinking they should be higher up the league ladder than they are.

One of the big reasons they are still down in League One is down to their inability to find a natural goalscorer. Despite having Ched Evans hit over 30 goals a few seasons ago, they have never replaced him and have since struggled to hit the back of the net.

Over years gone by, Blades fans have seen some pretty good strikers at the club, with Keith Edwards many years ago, Brian Deane lighting up the late 80's and 90's, and more recently James Beattie and the aforementioned Evans impressing.

However, there are plenty who have come and gone in the striker position who have simply not delivered what they should have.

Here, FLW writer Lee Connor looks at THREE of the worst Sheffield United strikers of the past decade...

Conor Sammon

This guy makes it onto the list hands down, without even an argument.

Few will say Sammon does not deserve to be on this list, while fans of other clubs Sammon has played for would probably include him on their own lists as well.

Sammon was simply terrible for the Blades, missing sitter after sitter and eventually being moved on after a miserable spell. Remarkably, Sammon has managed to get himself a move to Scotland with Hearts, where he will be finally hoping to find some sort of form in what has been a goal shy career.

Michael Higdon

Oh dear, Michael Higdon. I am a bit lost for words as to what to actually say about the former Motherwell man.

Signed by Nigel Clough from the Dutch league, Higdon was expected to be the man to fire the Blades to promotion following his prolific spell in Scotland with Motherwell.

However, it would not turn out that way. Despite a goal on his debut and being made captain, Higdon would fail to hit the goal trail and often looked overweight, short of fitness, and overall just not good enough. Higdon will not be remembered fondly at Bramall Lane.

Craig Beattie

Having a decade to look back on gives me enough scope to include this man.

Beattie was a poor, poor centre forward for Sheffield United, and offered very little in terms of a goal threat of laying on goals for his teammates.

The former West Brom man ended up playing in a play off final for the Blades, which was a pretty sad sight for Blades fans who made the trip to Wembley. Beattie managed only one goal for the Blades in his spell with the club, and won't be remembered for too much at Bramall Lane.

Blades fans, what do you think? Who would you include in your worst strikers? Let us know in the comments!
