In what has been a season of mixed fortune for Brentford, Dean Smith's side currently sits in 15th position in the Sky Bet Championship.

Brentford are currently in mid-table, comfortably safe from relegation but too far away from the play-off positions for a late surge.

Although Brentford have had some standout performers this season, there has also been some players who have failed to make an impression or have not lived up to expectations or their price-tag.

As Dean Smith begins making plans for next season and assessing which of his current crop of players will make the cut and which won't, a number of players will need to impress between now and the end of the season for differing reasons.

FLW writer Elliott Wheat-Bowen has identified two players who will need to seriously impress between now and the end of the season

Florian Jozefzoon

In a relatively quiet transfer window for Brentford, one of the new arrivals was Dutch winger Florian Jozefzoon who joined from Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven.

The 26-year-old winger joined Brentford alongside Norwich City winger Sergi Canos as the two major signings for the Bees in the winter transfer window.

After being on the very peripheries of PSV Eindhoven's side having made only five appearances in the Eredivisie before making the move, Jozefzoon has a point to prove at Brentford.

Although Jozefzoon is predominantly a right-sided player, Dean Smith has opted to deploy the former Ajax winger on the left, vacating the right wing for Jota.

With Jozefzoon facing extremely difficult competition in Sergi Canos for that place on the left wing, the 26-year-old winger will have to seriously impress between now and the end of the season, if he wants to cement his place in the starting line-up for next season.

Lasse Vibe

After the drawn out transfer saga of Scott Hogan finally came to a conclusion with the former Halifax Town striker joining Aston Villa, Brentford had to switch their focus when it came to goal-scoring outlets.

Danish international Lasse Vibe was the standout option, the 29-year-old striker joined Brentford from Allsvenskan side IFK Göteborg for a seven-figure fee in the summer of 2015.

Vibe's first season with Brentford was a relatively successful once as he scored fourteen times over the course of the Sky Bet Championship season.

However, this season, Vibe has struggled to replicate his goal-scoring form having only scored six times in the Championship.

Considering the prolific form that Scott Hogan was in which Brentford was relying on greatly it allowed Vibe to play a secondary role in the side. However, now that Hogan is no longer at the club, Vibe now has to bear the brunt of the goalscoring responsibility.

If Lasse Vibe wants to prove his worth in the side, the former IFK Göteborg striker will have to seriously impress between now and the end of the season or else, Dean Smith may look to bring in some striking reinforcements which could see his place in the side under serious threat.
