Swansea City will be aiming to extend their unbeaten run to four matches when they welcome Millwall to the Liberty Stadium on Saturday two weeks after they snatched a late 2-2 draw against Sheffield Wednesday.

Steve Cooper's side used their victory over bitter rivals as a springboard to an improved run of form as they then conquered Wigan with an injury-time victory before the hard-fought draw against the Owls at Hillsborough.

The Swansea boss stuck with an unchanged starting line-up for all three of these matches prior to the international break, with a number of high-profile names being left out of the side, including Borja Baston and Connor Roberts.

Roberts has excelled for Swansea since first starting to play regular football at the start of last season, with the 23-year-old making the club's right-back slot his own, but Cooper opted for the experienced Kyle Naughton ahead of him before the break.

Roberts did come off the bench during his side's clashes with Wigan and Sheffield Wednesday, but he will have been disappointed to lose his starting spot in the side heading into the international break, where he was due to play a key role for Wales.

However, the Swansea academy product still started both of Wales' qualifying matches against Azerbaijan and Hungary as they secured Euro 2020 qualification, and he may just have done enough to force his way back into Cooper's starting line-up at club level.

The former England U17 boss clearly felt Roberts' form had taken a dip, which led to his eventual dropping from the side, but his accomplished international performances over the last week suggest he is now back to his very best.

Naughton was preferred ahead of Roberts before the South Wales derby, with Cooper choosing to include plenty of experience in his line-up against the Bluebirds, but the team's all-round strong performance on that day has meant nobody has been able to break into the side in any matches since.

Naughton is a solid right-back option at Championship level given his composure on the ball, as well as his qualities in both defence and attack, but Roberts is undoubtedly the best player for that position when he is playing his best football.

The fact he now appears to have rediscovered the form which saw him cement the right-back slot originally suggests that Cooper should be seriously considering handing him a recall to the side when they host Millwall on Saturday.

Roberts is an overall strong defender, while he also provides an exciting attacking outlet on the right flank, and it now feels like the correct time for Cooper to make this slight personnel tweak to the Swansea defence.
