Kevin Davies has hailed Kiko Casilla for Leeds United's improved defensive displays.

The Whites have the most robust defence in the Championship having conceded just 10 goals in 21 appearances so far this term - a marked improvement on last term where they conceded 50 during the 46-game season.

While the addition of stars such as Ben White have had a big impact on the team's defensive displays, there's no doubt that Casilla has been a key part of Marcelo Bielsa's plans.

The 33-year-old has established himself as one of the top goalkeepers in the Championship this term, and speaking on Sky Sports, Kevin Davies said that his influence has been key.

Asked whether Leeds have rectified last season's defensive woes, Davies said: “Yes, that’s down to the shape they play with and without the ball.

“They’re hard to break down. I think he [Casilla] has been the difference in this run of wins and beyond, he’s pulling out all kinds of saves. He’s been outstanding.

“You’ve got a top keeper behind you it gives you every chance of being successful and going up.”

The verdict

There's no doubt that Leeds United have improved defensively this term and Kiko Casilla is a huge part of that.

The 33-year-old looks a much more assured presence between the sticks than he did last year, and combined with a defensive unit which is better suited to Marcelo Bielsa's plans, it's clear to see why they've improved.

The hope will now be to build on those displays and push for promotion.
