Hull City have had a decent season so far, but they will be disappointed to not be in contention for the top two at this stage.

They started the season very well and have been around the automatic spots all season but, recently, they have won just one game in eight, meaning they are nine points off the top two with just six games left.

Hull have had a very strong defence this season, with the experienced partnership of Curtis Davies and Michael Dawson excellent, while full-backs Moses Odubajo and Andy Robertson have also been outstanding.

Jake Livermore and Tom Huddlestone have protected the defence well in midfield, while Mohamed Diame has been good attacking from the midfield. Sam Clucas has shone down the wing, and he has had to as Ahmed Elmohamady has been disappointing.

Up front they have the impressive Abel Hernandez, one of the division's top scorers who has been linked with a move to Arsenal, although Chuba Akpom on loan from the Gunners hasn't quite been consistent enough.

However, Hull will be happy to welcome Robert Snodgrass back from injury to give them more attacking options.

Also, they will be a hard side to beat in the play-offs with their squad depth and manager experience. But they should have gone up in the top two but some key defeats has cost them this.

Derby County 4-0 Hull

The most recent poor result they collated was an embarrassing 4-0 defeat to promotion rivals Derby County.

Hull hadn't won for a month until they thrashed Bristol City 4-0 the weekend previous, and they went in confident against a Derby side in poor form after their defeat to Cardiff City and the management of Darren Wassall under scrutiny.

But Derby eased past Hull, with Bradley Johnson scoring a brace as the usually resilient Hull defence was destroyed, with Odubajo sent off.

This defeat has all but ended their automatic promotion hopes in most people's eyes, as they are now nine points off the top two.

But if they are getting beat this badly by sides in bad form what chance do they stand in the play-offs against other form sides?

Middlesbrough 1-0 Hull

It wasn't a bad performance by Hull but nonetheless a bad result.

They were playing out a pretty stagnant game with Middlesbrough, with chances at a premium, and the draw was doing little to hamper their top two chances.

But they rarely created a chance all game, and David Nugent's late header was a crushing late blow after very poor defending from Hull.

The defeat saw them eventually drop out of the top two and, since the defeat, they have only won once.

The win was huge for Middlesbrough, who won their two following games, and are well ahead of Hull in the race for the top two now.

Yet it could've been so different if Hull had stood firm for a few more moments. It could have cost Hull automatic promotion.

Rotherham United 2-0 Hull

Hull have the best home record in the league, crushing promotion rivals Middlesbrough and Burnley there.

Also, they have punished all of the struggling sides, easing past Rotherham United and thrashing Charlton Athletic.

For the most part, their away form has been good, but they have been accustomed to slump to defeats.

They have lost away to struggling Leeds United and Preston North End, but a particularly dismal display accompanied the 2-0 defeat at relegation-threatened Rotherham.

They rarely threatened to score as low-scoring Rotherham got through the solid Hull defence twice. This away defeat was quickly followed up by an impressive home win over Burnley, but then a poor away defeat to Preston.
