Newcastle look well on course to make it an immediate return to the Premier League, sitting top of the Championship table at the time of writing.

The Toon Army have seen their team dominate against most teams this season, with the impressive form of Dwight Gayle something to behold.

Newcastle are huge club, and in a season in the Championship there is always going to ups and downs. Such is the expectancy at the club, the fans in the North East often react badly off the back of a single defeat in the league.

With this in mind, we at FLW have decided to take a look at some of the highs and lows from Newcastle's season so far, as they look to seal that return to the top flight.

So, here are the TWO biggest highs and TWO biggest lows of Newcastle's season so far...

High 1 - 6-0 away win at QPR

If the club wanted to make a statement, it was important they did so early on in the season.

This particular result came in September, as the Toon ran rampant over a woeful QPR side. It was however a statement of intent to the rest of the league, and sent fear to some of the chasing pack in an early stage of the season.

Low 1 - Opening two games

The opening two games of the season were an utter disaster for Newcastle.

An opening day loss against Huddersfield Town was followed by a miserable 1-0 defeat away at Fulham. It put some serious panic among the Toon fans right from the outset, and was not the start Rafa Benitez had envisaged.

High 2 - Away win at Leeds

In front of packed out house at Elland Road, Newcastle overcame a massive test against an in form and rejuvenated Leeds United side.

A 2-0 away win was just what they deserved, and it cemented their hopes of securing a top two finish as well as stopping one of their rivals in in their tracks.

Low 2 - The away game at Nottingham Forest

Not much more needs to be said from this game that already was at the time, but the Mapgies away game at Forest was miserable.

There was controversy aplenty, not to mention dropping three points, and the fall out spilled over well into the following weeks, with red card appeals and fans arguing among each other on Twitter on plenty of occasions. It was certainly a low point for the club in terms of bad press.
