Writing in his weekly column for the Yorkshire Evening Post, David Prutton believes Saturday’s Yorkshire Derby between Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday is a chance for one side to showcase their promotion credentials.

Leeds host Carlos Carvalhal's side at Elland Road in tomorrow’s early kick-off from the Sky Bet Championship, with both sides looking to strengthen their grip on a place in the Play-Offs.

Garry Monk’s Leeds are currently fifth in the Championship, with the Owls level on points and one place below in the table.

Prutton, who is now a pundit for Sky Sports, played for Leeds between 2007 and 2010 and also had a spell with the Owls from 2011 to 2014.

Previewing Saturday’s clash, Prutton wrote: “Obviously we are still a fair few games away from the end of the season, but it’s a massive chance for teams to be able to lay down a bit of a marker.”

Victory for either side will see them increase the gap between themselves seventh placed Fulham to nine-points.

Leeds have struggled recently, picking up just two wins from their last five fixtures, with Wednesday picking up four victories in that time.

With a vital three-points at stake, many will be predicting a cagey affair, however, Prutton is hopeful of an entertaining game: “Both defences have been solid at times but then you also look at the attacking play they can both conjure, with the likes of Chris Wood and Pablo Hernandez for Leeds.

Then you look at what Wednesday have added in recent weeks and – hopefully – there will be plenty of goals and plenty of excitement.”

Leeds, who are looking for a first return to the Premier League since 2004, will continue to be without Charlie Taylor, who has just returned to first-team training, while the Owls will be without defender Tom Lees, who is yet to feature this month.
