Wigan Athletic manager Paul Cook will be desperate to reverse the form that has seen the Latics suffer three defeats in their last four outings, form that leaves them second from bottom in the Championship, six points adrift from safety as we enter the business end of the season.

In an attempt to freshen up the squad, Wigan are looking to land Sheffield Wednesday striker Jordan Rhodes, with Sun journalist Alan Nixon on Twitter suggesting that the Latics are prepared to offer £500,000 to secure the 29-year-old's services on-loan for the remainder of the season.

So should the Owls look to off-load Rhodes amid interest from Wigan?

We discuss.........

Ned Holmes

"Yes, I think offloading the striker makes sense.

"Other than a first-half hat-trick against Nottingham Forest, Rhodes has been disappointing for the Owls this season and provided little to Garry Monk's squad.

"The 29-year-old was anonymous in FA Cup tie with QPR on Friday and I think a fresh start would be best for both the player and the club.

"Wednesday are currently without top scorer Steven Fletcher, so you'd understand if Monk wanted to keep Rhodes in the squad as cover.

"However, he has not offered much at all in recent weeks, so would it not be better for the Owls to utilise one of their young players and offload Rhodes? I think it would be."

Jacob Potter

“I think they should take the money and run here!

“Rhodes has impressed me when he’s been involved this season for Sheffield Wednesday, but he just isn’t going to be getting the game time he needs under Garry Monk’s management this season.

“He’s behind the likes of Steven Fletcher, Atdhe Nuhiu and Sam Winnall in the pecking order at Hillsborough, so a move to Wigan could make sense for Rhodes.

“He’d be somewhat of a ‘big fish in a small pond’ with the Latics in my eyes, and he’d be a real coup for Paul Cook’s side.

“They need a goalscorer to fire them up the Championship table, and Rhodes could be the striker to do just that.

“It seems like it’ll only be a matter of time before Rhodes leaves the club on a permanent basis, especially if they’re to win promotion into the Premier League this season.”

Chris Thorpe

"This will certainly be a decision that Garry Monk will no doubt be looking to take some time over, particularly with Rhodes having found the net on a more consistent basis of late.

"The striker's hattrick against Nottingham Forest will have no doubt turned a few heads and as a result the Scot could well have something of a future at Hillsborough after all.

"However the presence of Steven Fletcher is likely to put an end to lingering hopes that Rhodes may have had over potentially resurrecting his Sheffield Wednesday career.

"A move away from the Owls now seems like an inevitability for the striker as he seeks to rediscover the type of form that saw Blackburn Rovers pay around eight million pounds to secure his services from Huddersfield Town all those years ago."
