Swansea captain Matt Grimes has urged his team to ‘stay positive’, after a run of one win in five Championship games going into the international break.

Steve Cooper’s Swansea looked to be front-runners for the Championship title this season, but one win in five league games, one win in six in all competitions, has stunted Swansea’s flying start and sees them drop to 4th in the Championship.

Matt Grimes has played every minute of Swansea’s Championship campaign so far this season, and has urged his teammates to ‘remain positive’ via the club's official website after their early form has slowed down, saying:

“We’re still only one point from the top. We need to remain positive even though our home form hasn’t been as good as we’re used to."

Before the start of the season, Swansea had lost just one of 18 home games this calendar year, drawing three and winning 14.

This season though, after winning their first five home games they’ve dropped points in the last three, with losses at home to Forest and Stoke and a draw with Reading.

“We will keep building towards the future and try not to dwell on the weekend result for too long,” said Grimes.

“We’ve had a couple of disappointing results but we need to keep on with our work and hope that we can pick up some more positive results. We will go to Barnsley confident we can get a result.”

Cooper’s side host Barnsley after the international break, where the Swans will be looking to retake their top-spot against the managerless-Barnsley.

The verdict

Nobody expected Swansea to be as high up the table as they are after 11 games. Cooper has so far worked wonders in Wales, and Grimes is right.

Swansea need to remain positive and remember that a win against lowly Barnsley next weekend could take them back to the top of the Championship.
