Swansea City head coach Steve Cooper has issued a fresh injury update ahead of his side's trip to face Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday afternoon.

The Liberty Stadium outfit will be targeting their third consecutive league success following wins over Cardiff and Wigan, but Cooper has confirmed there will be a number of absentees from his side for the trip to Hillsborough.

The Swansea boss revealed that winger Jordon Garrick has suffered a hamstring injury which could keep him out of action for around three months, while Erwin Mulder and Aldo Kalulu are also both unavailable for the trip.

Garrick has made four substitute appearances in the Championship for Cooper's side after making his senior breakthrough earlier this term, but he will now miss a significant period of time with this injury blow.

Speaking to Wales Online, Cooper confirmed news of Garrick's extended lay-off, while he described the training-ground injury as appearing innocuous at first before the club realised it was more serious.

“It was so innocuous. It was a training ground muscle injury," he said.

“When the scan results came back, it’s a tendon in the hamstring. It happens in professional football, lads are prone to getting injured."

The 21-year-old has now joined long-term absentee Joe Rodon on the injury table, with the defender having started his recovery from a tendon injury after undergoing a successful operation.

The Verdict

This is another significant blow for Swansea as Garrick had been showing early signs that he is capable of making a serious impact for the club this season with his tricky wing play.

The Welsh side would have earmarked the 21-year-old as a potential successor to Daniel James on the Swansea flank following the latter's breakthrough at the club last season, but this development will come as a setback to Garrick's progress.

Garrick may not have been a regular in Cooper's side so far this season, but he has already shown glimpses of his attacking menace despite the fact he is currently playing in his first season in senior football.
