Bolton Wanderers suffered their first league defeat away to Walsall thanks to a goal from Jason McCarthy, which was enough for the Saddlers to claim a 1-0 victory.

Both sides ended the tie with ten men - Joe Edwards was dismissed after just 16 minutes and Bolton's Keshi Anderson saw red during stoppage time.

Bradford and Bristol Rovers played out a 1-1 draw at Valley Parade. James Meredith put the home side a goal up before Charlie Colkett rescued a point for the visitors.

AFC Wimbledon came back from a goal down to win 2-1 away to Charlton Athletic, goals from Dominic Poleon and Tyrone Barnett earned Neal Ardley's side the win.

Chesterfield ended Northampton Town's unbeaten league run, beating them 3-1 at the Proact Stadium thanks to a brace from Conor Wilkinson.

Port Vale came from 1-0 down to beat Gillingham at Vale Park, with both of the home side's goals coming inside the final 15 minutes. The Gills led through Josh Wright's close range finish, but Remie Streete and Alex Jones netted late on to secure three points for the hosts.

MK Dons were held to a 0-0 draw by their visitors Oxford United, and it also finished 0-0 in the game between Coventry City and Oldham Athletic. The Sky Blues are now the only side to have not won a league game this season after Rochdale beat Fleetwood Town 2-1 with goals from Matty Lund and Steven Davies.

David Mirfin's goal was enough for Scunthorpe United to take all three points away at Shrewsbury Town, a result which sends the Iron top of the division.

Sheffield United extended their winning streak to four league games courtesy of a 1-0 win over Peterborough United at Bramall Lane, and at Roots Hall Southend United won for just the second time this season after a 3-1 victory over Millwall.

Bury moved up to third in the League One table after their 2-1 win away to Swindon Town. Hallam Hope scored twice in the first half before Jon Obika bagged a consolation for the home side after 64 minutes.

Scunthorpe, who also have a game in hand, climb above Bolton to top the table after eight matches. Sheffield United and Port Vale are up into the play-offs. Coventry are rock bottom, and are joined in the bottom four by Bristol Rovers, Shrewsbury and Rochdale.
