Clarke was sacked following his side's 1-0 defeat to QPR on Thursday night, but Reading's owners were reportedly unhappy with his decision to speak to Championship rivals Fulham a few weeks ago.

With no immediate favourite for the role yet, a number of managerial candidates have been linked with the post since Clarke's departure and the Belgian is the latest on the list.

The 40-year lefttThe Addicks earlier this season after winning just 12 of his 36 games in charge of the club, but he could now be set for a shock return to the second tier.

Reading are currently ninth in the Championship after collecting 27 points so far this season and they currently find themselves just one point outside of the play-off places.
