Sheffield Wednesday currently find themselves occupying the last play-off space, 5 points ahead of Derby County who lie one spot behind them in 7th place.

The Owls have already done two good pieces of business this January in securing a loan move for West Brom's Callum McManaman and also the permanent transfer of former Barnsley hit man Sam Winnall.

Carlos Carvalhal will no doubt be keen to strengthen his squad further as they look to secure a play-off spot.

One place the Owls could look to explore for their transfers this month is the Scottish market, where a number of talented players are currently plying their trade.

This article is going to take a look at two players Sheffield Wednesday should be looking to bring in from Scotland this month.

Barrie McKay

Rangers starlet Barrie McKay is certainly someone who should be on Sheffield Wednesday's radar this January.

He is extremely highly rated at Ibrox and appears to have bags and bags of potential.

AdTech Ad Despite being just the tender age of 22, McKay has already made over 100 appearances for Rangers, scoring 17 goals in the process from his position out wide.

The young man is comfortable on either flank, as well as in behind the striker in a number 10 role.

McKay’s potential has also been recognised by the Scotland national team for whom he has been capped at under-18, under-19 and under-21 level.

Gary Mackay-Steven

The second player that The Owls could look to poach away from Scotland is Celtic winger Gary Mackay-Steven.

The 26-year-old is very much on the fringes of Brendan Rodgers’ squad and is likely to be interested in the move to give himself a greater chance of regular first team football.

AdTech Ad AdTech Ad He can play on either flank or even behind the striker, and would add versatility to the squad’s attacking options.

Mackay-Steven has been capped only once for the Scotland national team and I’m sure he will be harbouring hopes of a recall to the squad one day – something which a move to England could help with.
