Sheffield Wednesday have reached a fresh agreement with a trio of key players ahead of next season according to the Sheffield Star.

Keiren Westwood, Liam Palmer and Kieren Lee were all offered new deals at Hillsborough at the end of last season, and it seems they have struck an agreement to extend their stay with the club.

It is claimed that Westwood and Palmer have penned two-year contracts, whilst Lee has signed a new one-year deal at Hillsborough.

Lee struggled with injury throughout last year's campaign, and it won't come as a surprise to see the club only offering him a deal for a further 12 months.

Westwood was hugely impressive for the Owls in the second-half of last season, after being frozen out by former Sheffield Wednesday boss, Jos Luhukay.

It had previously been reported that Westwood was attracting interest from Huddersfield (according to The Sun on Sunday, 14th April, page 61), but this latest report all but ends speculation linking him with a move away from the club.

Palmer made 35 appearances for the Owls last season, and put in a number of positive performances for Steve Bruce's side as they finished 12th in the Championship.

Sheffield Wednesday finished the season strongly in last year's campaign, and they'll be hoping to pick up where they left off heading into next season.

Securing the future of these players is a huge step in the right direction for Bruce's side, and they'll fancy their chances of finishing inside the top six when the season gets underway.

The Verdict:

This is the best news possible ahead of next season.

Westwood's reported decision in particular will be a huge boost to the Sheffield Wednesday supporters, as he has been a key player for them for a number of seasons.

This is a real statement of intent by the Owls, and I think they'll be challenging for a top six finish next season if they can add some new faces to their squad before the season gets underway in August.
