Lincoln City boss Danny Cowley is keen on taking over at Sheffield Wednesday after reports revealed he is in advanced talks about succeeding Steve Bruce at Hillsborough.

The 40-year-old has done a remarkable job with the Imps, along with brother Nicky, with the pair taking the side from non-league to second in League One in just over three years.

Therefore, it would be considered a real coup for the Owls. And, according to reporter Graeme Bailey, Wednesday have been handed a major boost on that front, as he has revealed that the Cowley's want to make the move.

"Sheffield Wednesday like the Cowley Bros a lot and have made a move. The brothers are keen on the chance to take charge at Hillsborough, a huge opportunity for them and one Danny and Nicky have both earned."

The duo recently rejected the opportunity to take over at Huddersfield Town after the Terriers agreed to pay £1m compensation and it would appear the Owls would need to do the same.

Dejphon Chansiri is on the lookout for a new boss after Bruce left for Newcastle United, with former player Lee Bullen in charge on a caretaker basis right now.

The Verdict

This is big news for Wednesday, and Lincoln fans, as it wasn't clear whether Cowley would pursue a move at this stage of the season given how well the Imps have started.

However, you can understand why the brothers would want to go to the Owls as they are a huge club and the pair will recognise the massive potential if they get things right.

Ultimately, it's down to Chansiri to pay the fee that Lincoln will demand and it would be a fantastic appointment if they can finalise this.
