Sheffield Wednesday have reportedly come to an agreement with a key trio over new contracts ahead of next season.

According to the Sheffield Star, Kieran Lee, Liam Palmer and Keiren Westwood have agreed to extend their stay at Hillsborough with Steve Bruce's side.

It is claimed that Westwood and Palmer will sign two-year deals, whilst Lee will sign a 12-month extension on his current deal with the Owls.

Westwood was hugely impressive for Sheffield Wednesday last season. especially given that he was previously frozen out for the majority of the first-half of the season under Jos Luhukay.

But he made up for lost time and was key to their impressive performances heading towards the conclusion of last season.

Lee has struggled for game time recently due to injury worries, but he made his long-awaited return to the side for the final two games of the league season.

So a one-year deal for him makes sense, and he'll be hoping to make up for lost time in recent seasons by playing his part for Bruce's men next season.

But this is a real statement of intent shown by Sheffield Wednesday ahead of next season, as the players signing up to new deals would have had a number of potential suitors over the summer.

Westwood was previously linked with a move to Huddersfield Town (according to The Sun, 14th April, page 61) and it will be a huge boost for Sheffield Wednesday to tie him down to a new contract.

They are players that have been key for a number of years now, and it's vital that Sheffield Wednesday keep experienced players who know the club inside and out, heading into next year's campaign.

The feel-good factor at Hillsborough returned towards the end of last season, and the dismal performances under Jos Luhukay earlier in the season will feel like a distant memory for supporters.

They'll be hoping that Bruce can guide them to a long-awaited promotion into the Premier League next season, and that certainly is a possibility if they can make new signings to strengthen their squad.

But getting Westwood, Lee and Palmer tied down to new deals is a smart move by the club, and they'll be hoping that their loyalty is repaid with some positive performances heading into next season.
