As one of the most well-recognised youth set-ups outside of the Premier League, Sheffield Wednesday's productive academy has played a role in the success that the South Yorkshire club has had.

In Sheffield Wednesday's current first team squad, Joe Wildsmith and Liam Palmer are both academy graduates and Carlos Carvalhal has shown that he is willing to utilise the productive academy system.

Carlos Carvalhal may turn to the academy once gain to promote one or two emerging stars to play a role in Sheffield Wednesday's hunt for promotion.

The Owls currently occupy the final play-off spot and they need to keep winning to hold off the challenges of the likes of Norwich City, Derby, Fulham and Barnsley.

With a new wave of young emerging stars coming through the academy set-up at Sheffield Wednesday, it is inevitable that some will break through and force their way into the first team set-up.

Jonatas Centeno

Jonatas Centeno joined Sheffield Wednesday after leaving Arsenal's academy despite a number of clubs showing an interest in the Portuguese full-back.

The versatile defender primarily operates as a right back can also play in a more advanced attacking role as a winger, which could prove useful for Carvalhal if he was to offer his compatriot an opportunity.

However, the lure of Carlos Carvalhal and the Portuguese contingency at Sheffield Wednesday was enough to entice Centeno to stay in England and join the Championship side.

Having already been capped at under-17 level for Portugal, it is clear that Centeno is one of Portugal's brightest talents of the new generation.

As well as being an emerging star for Portugal, it is anticipated that Centeno could be the next player to be promoted into the first team squad.

Charlie Hayford

When it emerged that Charlie Hayford would not be having his contract renewed at Tottenham Hotspur and that he was set to leave the North London club after fifteen years, it came as a shock to most.

With a number of Premier League and Championship clubs attempting to entice Hayford to their club, it was Sheffield Wednesday who won the race for the highly talented 19-year-old midfielder.

The central midfielder was impressed by Sheffield Wednesday's attractive style of play and the footballing philosophy that Carvalhal looks to implement.

Although Hayford has been used sparingly by Sheffield Wednesday so far, there are no questions about the talent or ability of the former Tottenham midfielder.

Hayford will be hoping that he can make a good impression in the new future and prove to be the emerging star at Sheffield Wednesday that he was touted to be when he was at Tottenham Hotspur.
